Donna Moore Wesby


Donna Moore Wesby is currently founder and host of weekly radio and television broadcasts entitled “Education Matters” appearing on CBS affiliate WRDW Channel 12 television and WAAW Shout 94.7 FM radio.  Her radio broadcast premiered February 2009 and aired on WAAW Shout 94.7 FM radio for five years prior to her move to WNRR 1380 AM radio in 2014.  She returned to WAAW in November 2016 where she produces and hosts “Education Matters” every week and was appointed the WAAW Sales Department Manager in January 2017.


Her television broadcast ran on Aiken Standard Television Channel 95 from its inception in 2011 until the program was picked up by WRDW Channel 12 television in 2014 where the broadcast is still produced.


She is also founder and owner of The Greatest Gift, an all-occasion gift business.  The Greatest Gift was honored as the 2006 Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year, becoming the first African American business to receive this recognition.  Ms. Wesby occasionally writes a column in the Aiken Standard newspaper on education-related issues.  Ms. Wesby served on the Aiken County Board of Education from 2008-2012.


In April 2013, Ms. Wesby founded the “Education Matters Nonprofit Corporation” (a 501-c3 tax exempt organization) where she serves as the executive director and also operates the organization’s reading and resource center, which is an after school program for 1st-8th graders.


Ms. Wesby gives all praises to God and is heavily involved in Kingdom building and serving mankind. She serves as the adult leader of a student faith-based organization entitled “Teen Mission” at Aiken High School, which was started by her son in 2011.  In addition to serving on several boards, advisory councils, and committees within the community, Ms. Wesby was appointed by the Governor of South Carolina in 2013 to serve on the Board of Trustees for the John de la Howe School where she still serves, which is a residential state agency that provides educational and therapeutic services for children.  She also serves on the Board of Governors for Aiken Regional Medical Centers Hospital in Aiken, South Carolina (2014-2019) and is a South Carolina Notary Public.


Ms. Wesby was employed at the Savannah River Site (SRS) for 15 years where she served in several public relations and communications assignments for Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC), including coordinator of the internship and School-to-Work programs.  She also worked as executive assistant to two WSRC presidents, becoming the first African American in the site’s 50-year history to work in the president’s office in a professional capacity.  She currently works as a subcontractor at SRS where she manages the SRS Employee Association Store.


Ms. Wesby graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism, 1992.  She has been an active resident of Aiken nearly 50 years.  She is married to Donald Wesby of Waynesboro, Georgia.  He is creator of Don’s Seasoning Delight, all-purpose seasoning/marinade sold in stores and via Internet.  Together they have three adult children: Britney, D.J., and Mykal (pronounced “Michael”) and one beautiful granddaughter.
